(A Good Friday Service) –– One of the hardest things to explain as a Christian is suffering, because in the midst of it God seems to be most absent, most merciless, if not most unjust. Scripture says God won’t give us more than we can bear, but we feel in suffering that He has; it says He’ll never leave us nor forsake us, but it seems He’s nowhere around when we’re hurting. And so it’s at these times that our theology seems to crumble and we angrily question God and doubt His love. Our only and certain remedy is a right perspective of the cross. By taking a look at how God reveals His justice and love in the cross, we can see how a proper view of the cross of Christ can help us not only rejoice in our sufferings, but even prefer them over all the ease and pomp the world has to offer.
