Here the pilgrims enter the Enchanted Ground and face the greatest temptation yet: the temptation to fall asleep. The threat of this temptation to grow cold in religion comes upon us in a time of relative ease when afflictions and trials, which have long kept us awake, are relatively absent. They decide that one of the greatest antidotes to such sinful sleep (remember the Arbor on the way up Hill Difficulty?) is Christian conversation. Therefore Hopeful begins to share how God worked conviction, repentance, and conversion in his life. We’ll continue this discourse over the next several weeks.
